You’ll find the process of drawing the patterns by hand absorbing and somewhat challenging, but ultimately satisfying. The beauty and complexity of the pattern we create on a blank page with just a compass, straight edge and mark maker is amazing.

With Samira guiding you, first you’ll learn how to draw Islamic geometric patterns using a simple step-by step process. Then you’ll learn how to add colour and embellish your line drawings, just like the craftsmen over the centuries. The possibilities are endless. By the end of the workshop you will have created a pattern that has connected us to humanity throughout time. You’ll draw a different pattern every time you join a workshop and once the class is over you can draw, colour and embellish constructions and patterns at home.

These sessions are open to beginners; you don’t need previous knowledge or experience. Samira provides all the materials you need for the workshop. However you are welcome to bring your own and if you want some guidance, plenty of recommendations are available on www.samiramian.uk/equipment.

The workshops are suitable for any ability aged 14+ and take place every month at several locations. You can book a place on any monthly workshop, but why not make Drawing and Painting Islamic Geometry patterns with Samira a regular feature in your calendar?

ABOUT THE TUTOR

Samira is a budding artist and experienced educator with a passion for Islamic Geometry. She tapped into her 12 years experience secondary school teaching so she could share her passion for the compass and straight edge constructions of Islamic Geometric Patterns. Since 2015 she has run workshops in the UK, abroad and online.

For me it is an immensely satisfying pursuit, from analysing and constructing the patterns, to painting them in watercolours and gouache and of course teaching others, bringing this art form to a wider audience.Samira
