Class details

Join us for a brand new session where we upcycle and remodel clothes. We’ll turn charity shop finds, or things from the back of your cupboard into a new and useful item of clothing. Experienced sewer, Laura Holland, a professional costume maker and used to creating something from nothing, shows us what to do.

Saturdays

11am – 1pm

8 June – 27 July (No session on 22 June)

£10 per person per session

The fee includes all the materials you require for the session.

Venue : Open Southall Parkside Yards Seva Drive Southall UB1 1GH

Laura will share her experience into how you take an unwanted piece of clothing and change it into something you want. We’ll start with a charity shop find – a man’s shirt and turn it into an apron. There’s lots of other projects too – like turning jeans into bags, for example. You don’t have to know how to use a sewing machine for this project – we can teach you. Hand sewing is also a skill and beneficial in many areas.

ABOUT THE TUTOR

After studying an academic degree and pursuing a career in business, Laura changed course. She went to London College of Fashion to study making costumes for performance.

Her work experience in the ladies’ workroom at the National Theatre led to call backs to help with productions. She worked there for over two years and went freelance in 1994.

“I have made costumes for most major theatres in London and some for TV and film plus replicas for Museums. When theatres went dark during the pandemic I decided rather than relaunch in theatre to focus on education so I can pass on the skills I have built up over the last 30 years.”

Laura is also skilled in related subjects like dyeing, dye effects, screen printing and millinery. And can knit and crochet.

We’re really excited about our new course and look forward to upcycle and remodel clothes – hope you can join us.
