Upcycling is the process of transforming waste materials, old garments, or unwanted items into higher-quality products. In this context, upcycling clothing involves taking old clothes and transforming them into fashionable, upcycled garments. These new clothes could be anything from a pair of old jeans turned into a stylish handbag to a well-worn t-shirt morphed into a trendy crop top. It’s all about creative reuse and giving old garments a chance to shine again.
First week : make a bag / zipper pouch from upcycled fabrics.
Second week : bring something from home to repair or upcycle.
Third week : choose a pattern and learn about cutting.
Week 4 5 & 6 : work on your garment.
By the end of this course you’ll have created some one of a kind clothing that can only be made and sets you apart from everyone else. Specifically you will have learned about
- making button holes, installing zips, binding & embellishments.
- using a sewing machine and its features.
- different stitch types.
- repairing & upcycling.
- reading a pattern.
- draping fabric.
- fabric types & uses.
All levels welcome.
